Red and Black

This is what I wore to see Les Mis (but since it was cold I never took my coat off to let anyone else see it. Meh.).

The words are 'Red, the blood of angry men/Black, the dark of ages past' from the musical Les Mis ([link] at 1:51). I cut two shirts on the diagonal, sewed them back together, did an embroidery cross-stitch along the seam, and hand-painted the letters. The paint has been heat-set and gone through the wash once, so I know it's holding its color well.

I like drawing letters to begin with (like the Gothic blocky lettering), and I've done it often enough that I was able to look at an alphabet chart of this font, sketch it on in white pencil, and then paint them on using a combination of acrylic paint and this additive that makes the paint stick better...like a fabric paint medium? I dunno.

I had really hoped that the red could be bolder...but four layers later it was still kinda blotchy-looking. -.- But the more I look at it, the more it seems to fit, because it doesn't look so clean-cut and sharp. It just looks a bit...I dunno, older? Worn?

Meh. It was fun to make and that's what counts. XD
